What It's About:

As Andy goes off to Cowboy Camp, Tom Hanks-voiced Woody gets inadvertently mixed up in a yard sale when trying to help another toy. Toy store owner and collector Al steals him to complete his collection, and sell it on to a toy museum. Andy's toys mount a rescue mission to get Woody back home before Andy's return from camp. Meanwhile, in Al's apartment, Woody discovers that he was the star of a show called Woody's Round Up, alongside Jessie The Cowgirl (Joan Cusack), Pete The Stinky Prospector (Kelsey Grammer) and Bullseye The Horse. Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) and the rest of the motley crew are on hand to spring him out and spare him an eternity in a display case.

What MovieMonkeys Thought:

Toy Story 2 has lost none of its magic and charm over the last 15 years, and is still arguably a more enjoyable film than Toy Story. Yet one does wonder what is truly gained by putting such a gem through the 3D mill. The fact of the matter is that Toy Story 2, unlike recent Disney release Up, was not conceived with 3D in mind. The result is disappointing, and the 3D feels, well, slapped on as an afterthought. The younger fans may relish the chance to see this classic on the big screen for the first time but for the rest of us there really isn't much point. Worth noting too that the one size fits all 3D glasses available in cinemas, uncomfortable at best for grown-ups, are an absolute nightmare for younger kids who are presumably the key demographics for this release.  While we eagerly await the release of Toy Story 3 later this year, this short theatrical outing of Toy Story 2 in 3D is not the must-see it ought to have been.
