MonkeyScore: 95% When it comes to a Disney / Pixar production, the expectations are rightfully high. If that wasn't enough pressure, director Lee Unkrich found himself at the helm of the 15-year awaited sequel to one of cinema's most beloved franchises. Getting nervous yet? No need: Toy Story 3 is everything fans of the previous films loved, and then some. The gang is thrown out of their comfort zone in a spectacular way, which gives the filmmakers a golden opportunity to introduce new characters for the ride. The result is a breathtaking, hilarious picture that in true Disney fashion has plenty to satisfy fans of all ages, from tots to grown-ups. The 3D looked the part, too, as the film was designed with 3D in mind (unlike the effects slapped on to Toy Story 1 and 2 earlier this year.) Do check with your local cinema before splashing out for 3D tickets though: not all theatres have kids 3D glasses, which could mean the little ones watching a very fuzzy picture and landing a prize headache... This film works just as well in 2D: it looks great, the story is brilliant, and many adults were seen bawling as the end credits rolled. Come on, get yourself to the cinema... it really is the best way to see this film. Sure you will no doubt have to get the DVD for Christmas, but the film's worth forking out for a summer family outing. Pure joy. |
