The cult 1990s graphic novel gets its long-awaited big-screen adaptation. A Special Forces team known as 'The Losers' is betrayed by their handler, the elusive Max (Jason Patric.) Left for dead in South America, they get an opportunity to take their revenge from Max and attempt to clear their names from a secret CIA death list.

Comics adaptations for the big screen can be somewhat predictable and FX rather than script driven, but The Losers sits firmly in the small group that made a successful transition. The film works on its own merit, too: no need to be a DC Comics fan, or indeed know anything about DC Comics to enjoy its infectious action-filled fun. Just like a modern A-Team with real bullets, The Losers are an army special ops unit that finds itself betrayed by handler Max, played by a suitably Mr Evil-ish Jason Patric. Before they can attempt to clear their names and expose Max The Losers need to get back to the US. Cue Aisha (Zoe Saldana, of Avatar fame), who can help then get back to the States in exchange for Max's life. While the association seems unlikely at first the chemistry between Aisha and Clay (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is so intense that the screen positively sizzles. The rest of the team are excellent, too: Columbus Short as Pooch, a kind of black MacGyver (or, in his own words a Blagyver), is excellent, while The Wire's Idris Elba adds an edgy performance to the ensemble as the aptly named Rogue. Infectious, action-filled fun - as funny as it is explosive.
